Subject: Newbie question flood - access hatch

Sorry about this, gang. This is my first Westy (my first camper of any kind) and I have more questions than I can stand. I'll post these one at a time, though, so you can pick and choose. <Deep breath> Here goes:

Why is my 1980 Westy different than every other one on the web?

There is an access hatch on the outside of the van. It's missing and has been replaced with a piece of sheet metal. Behind that is the switch to change the fridge 110/12/LP and the pilot light. Not sure what else is there. I need a new door for that. Any thoughts on where to find one? What are we looking at here? A very early Westy? The manufacture date on the labels says 11/79. A label inside identifies it as a P22 model.

Here are some pics of the van. http://www.skipemmert.com/vanquestions/access.jpg http://www.skipemmert.com/vanquestions/sideview.jpg http://www.skipemmert.com/vanquestions/labels.jpg

Thanks for any help,

Skip Emmert-Keaton 1980 Westy <unnamed>
