The small solar charger I have (125 ma max) does not have a diode. Too much loss across the diode? All of the bigger ones I have seen do. It pays not to buy the cheapest in this case.

Don't these units have a protection diode in series with the output? If there is a diode, I don't understand how the electronics will get fried if the engine is started. Just curious. //Jack
