When I was traveling into Mexico last March a guy in line behind me at the Mexico side of customs was traveling with a dog. A bull mastiff no less. Took up the whole back seat of his Caddy. He said it only required records of current shots more so to bring the dog back out of Mexico than any requirement for ingress. He said it required no quarantine period etc and he traveled down to the peninsula on a regular basis. Unfortunately this is all second hand knowledge though I did observe him going through customs in about the same time I did since we were on the road together south out of Matamoras for while. YMMV

When you are ready for that leg of the journey I have a great area to visit should you find yourself on the Atlantic side of the country. Complete with a hand drawn map and GPS coordinates. Deepest sink hole in the world and an absolutely beautiful spring fed waterfall with cave.
