Wow Dan! Friday or not, the list has offered some great advice, wisdom and thoughts to ponder. I say this as I sit at my desk of the last 10yrs doing marriage and family therapy with another 10yrs experience in a number of different settings working in and about fractured relationships.. My Vanagon keeps me sane, rational and grounded.......... at least on the "good" days.

Seen allot of break-ups in twenty years. The parameters you ought to follow by Heinlein: anything that includes "tangled emotions", make the route difficult to locate, find or follow. Great advise but, when emotions are tangled.... I cannot tell up from down! Paul Simon put to music what many have attempted in their respective relationships....... just get on the bus Gus! OUCH. Read a bunch of stuff in the self-help area..... at least you will speak and sound wise whatever the outcome. Following my own divorce, I read the 1200 page treatise: Love Sex Marriage & Divorce. Dated now but a good background read. Found no easy path to separating in the 1200 pages. Just lots and lots of alternatives. Surrounding yourself with lots of Vans will help in the long run. You will become a Van guru of sorts, with people knocking at your door at all hours of the day and night asking for help. Your girl friend will be long gone by this time. Thus, mission accomplished and problem solved!

This may sound lame but, whatever you do..... do not sell the Van!
