I think the problem with a V8 is that it is just to big to fit in the compartment. I like to keep them original. I have a 1.9 manual and a 2.1 auto from Boston Bob. The 2.1 is very strong and if you want to go faster you probably shouldn't be in a Vanagon. As for replacing the heads or changing the engine, if you have the money get a rebult engine and then you can count on the engine for a long time. If you are just driving the thing locally then you might consider a used engine or fixing the heads. I often drive 2-3 hours away and don't want to be stuck for hours so I changed mine with new rebuilts. >>> Adam B <TheCoolestGuy87@AOL.COM> 11/17/2003 7:14:27 PM >>> Hello, Has anyone ever done a V-8 Swap into a Vanagon? If so, does it make the thing fast? If my engine ever craps out, is it worth doing an engine swap? And if so, what is the best one to do? Also, I know my car has a leaky head gasket. I know it isn't bad right now, but if it ever does get bad, is it best to replace them, do an engine swap, or just get a new car which would be devastating thanks |
