The oil filler was a molded in place assembly. The plastic portion was not to be separated or replaced. It is probably cracked from being separated. This assembly should be near air tight. A new one is on order. The cable and that mess it is connected to looks like some type of aftermarket cruise control. Finish the removal. I am fixing my Vanagon finally. Took the engine out and replaced tons of stuff. I'm not a mechanic, but have had help.... Anyway, since I have owned the van there has been a cable, near the throttle, that has never been attached. I am hoping someone can tell me what it does. I have taken pictures of the cable, as well as the electrical thing that it attaches to underneath the van. I can't find it in my bentley since I don't know what to look for. Also, I am trying to reconnect my oil spout. I know where it came off, but I can't figure out how to get it back on. The spout just seems too small to fit over the metal part. Is there a trick to this, am I missing something simple? After this it is on to the shocks, and then some little odds and ends. Hoping to be done in the next week or so. Here is the link to the pictures, which should show what I am trying to figure out.... http://onehop.homedns.org:8080/_sgt/m5_1.htm Thank much...
