> This came from the fowlling web site. > http://www.gmcws.org/techcenter/93-05tc05.html > DANGEROUS TIRES > At the Mount Hood Roundup, Wes Caughlan warned us to get rid of the > Michelin XCA load range-D tires. Since then I have seen several coaches > still running the tires. Owners still running these tires risk expensive > damage to their coaches. one thing to remember is that this guy is talking about winnebago-type coaches ... and ALL of them are running over the weight limits of their much-larger-than-vanagon coaches. one of the things i found out when researching which (if any) of those behemoths, was that the 'useful load' was almost nil ... by the time the body and interior was fitted to the chassis, the tires and suspension were almost overloaded ... and some were overloaded before you even added the people, let along food and water and fuel. :( and one of the magazines warns continually about owners needing to check the air pressure in their tires, as an underinflated tire is very dangerous; it will overheat and start coming apart. so before anyone panics about having those tires on their vanagon, check into the facts ... there's a big difference between a winnebago and a vw vanagon. just a different opinion. ;) joel |
