Folks
Yes. A pigtail adaptor does come with the unit. However this is to
connect the newer type wiring harness to the existing wiring coming from the
loom in the door.
What I am saying is that the superseded unit has the wires coming out from
the bottom of the unit ( like the older 255 959 783 unit )BUT the
connection is hardened plastic and cannot bend ( as the older unit did ).
This prohibits it from being screwed to the bracket fitted to the bottom
frame of the hatch.
Result it just cannot be fitted to the Hatch Door. Even turning it upside
down and fitting it that way seemed to place an undue angle on the actuator
connector rod. I cannot answer about the front door or sliding door frames
as it was only my hatch door actuator that went kaput.

Specifically, will THIS actuator on ebay fit the driver door of my 89
vanagon?

Please let me know if anyone knows. It closes today, and I have a line
on one from a listmember that I'm taking if this one won't work or goes
too high.
Thanks,
Jim
