Subject:   82 won't start when hot (redux)

I got the van in my neighbors shop this weekend and we had a large time generally putzing around getting familiar with the brake system, pulling wheels off, cleaning the grime off, checking for leaks or obvious signs of failure and working up a list of parts needed to start the brake job. Ahhh... the simple pleasures of life. We had already consumed a couple of beers so I wasn't going anywhere, the van wasn't going anywhere, and we didn't have brake parts on hand so... With my newly aquired skills with a multimeter I decided to take another look at the cylinder head temperature sensor and hot starting problem. This is what I found: when the van is completely warmed up, or at least as warm as it gets at idle, the meter returned a reading of 50 ohms, Bentley states this should be 270-390 ohms at 80C/176F, when the van cooled off completely I took another reading and got 875 ohms, Bentley states this should be 2100-3100 ohms at 20C/68F. There is obviously a difference, in the right direction, between my readings when the engine is hot and cold. My question is why might I not be seeing the same numbers that Bentley suggests, assuming I am correctly using the multimeter :) Is this possibly an indicator of the hot start problem?
