I also took my honeymoon in our 1989 Vanagon GL from San Diego to San Francisco but had no problems except for the front bra that broke a door clamp and started flapping in the wind. I had to duct tape the bra to the door to eliminate flapping in the wind.. The manufacturer has since repaired the bra and installed two extra clamp/door hooks as per my request to eliminate wind from flapping the bra again. All free of charge. Except for that small inconvenience the van ran great, got good MPG and actually passed SUV vehicles uphill. I was very impressed with the vanagon and this was the beginning of my wife falling in love with the vanagon. I believe if it came to a choice of me or the vanagon today my wife would now choose the vanagon. She dislikes driving in our Mercedes and insists we take the vanagon whenever we travel together, even short trips to the grocery store. William
