Follow up to my previous post. The newer units are sold in three parts. Actuator unit, Plug in harness and Pigtail to connect to existing wiring. The new plug in harness with its rigid end going into the actuator is the problem child. The engineers at VW went for a beer and bratwurst lunch prior to designing the new unit.

The new unit from the dealer is like you say, but they also sell you a pigtail adapter that goes with it so that it connects like the old one should..................
