In life you never get something for nothing - same is true for cams. You get increased upper end horse power and the expense of low end torque.

My former 1980 Rabbit PU at a nice Schrick 280 degree cam in a 2.0L block (stock is around 256 degree) - it was very soft on the bottom end, but so as you got above 4000 RPM *LOOK OUT* it was increditable!

The 266 that was advertised is a good cam for a 2L like the south African kit has. The idle won't suffer from installing it, emissions will still probably pass and you will see a slight gain in power with very little loss to the bottom end. The 266 cams are nice.

OK, time to profess my ignerunce. What does a different cam do to change the performance? I see these cam upgrades for many different vehicles, and I don't get it -- why didn't the VW engineers use that design in the first place if it's better?
