Why go into debt if you don't have to! My goodness, if you don't have a job, she has no right to even think about getting a new vehicle! An 84 Vanagon Westy is not going to bring in tons of money to buy a modern car if you sell it, and sounds like you will regret it if you do. Please look at your situation, and be real with yourself. If neither of you has a job, and she is a student, it would be downright crazy to buy another vehicle right now. Besides, the Vanagon isn't all that unsafe. Have you seen the Vanagon vs Volvo pictures? Maybe you should show them to your wife. I think she would be impressed. Anyway, I hope you get her to see the light. Good luck!
