Subject:      very fast idle after being on freeway

After I've been on the freeway for any period of time
my 87 2.1 doesn't idle properly. It will stay up as
high as 22-2300.


Idle is fine while running around town.


I've only had this van a few weeks and have also
noticed the gas mileage is poor for a Vanagon, about
15MPG. Not sure if it is related or not. Engine
appears to be a factory reman (VW of Canada stickers)
and is reported to have about 40,000 miles on it. It
runs great except for occasional vanagon syndrome. I
will try a better alternator ground and see if that
helps.
