Thanks to those that responded to my plea for Carfax.
The info retrieved on the wife's new 02 Jetta Wagon with a VR6 was
unremarkable.
Following an hour drive to the VW dealer, the car was delivered Monday and
after waiting a half hour; the head mechanic and I took a test ride. As the
car's AT usually only slipped when warmed up, I was concerned that it might
not act up. After ten minutes he put it in the shop and twenty minutes
later the service manager was handing me the keys to a rental car and
telling me that a new transmission had already been ordered... all NO
CHARGE. Yahoo, no hassles!
Tuesday afternoon the SM called and said the Jetta was ready for pick up.
Tomorrow I will put it to the test in a 17 hour drive to coastal VA and
back.
