Loren,

Thanks for this link! The article's link to http://myvwlemon.com/ is a major eye-opener for me. Now I'm scared - very scared. We are still paying on our nice '02 Passat wagon (1.8T, 5-speed).

So far we have lived through the coil-pack replacement. The sagon has a warped-brake-rotor-feel to it when braking moderately or harder. An independent mechanic, very skilled and reputable, checked it out and found all rotors in near-mint shape, no warpage or runout. We think it is the ABS unit, and will take it in soon for diagnosis. However, on the My Lemon VW site, someone posted that their brakes almost failed once, and later on the ABS unit cought fire!!! I think my old Scirocco and Vanagons just got much more valuable to me...

Gotta say, Sonnen VW in San Rafael, CA (http://www.vwdealer.com/sonnen/index.html) has been a gem of a dealer. They offered to, and replaced, all 4 coil packs without blinking an eye on it when one failed (amazingly, when my wife was on her way to them for an oil change and service!).

A Pitch to the Rich VW's growth engine has stalled in the U.S., partly because of poor quality. Will its pricey new cars fuel a revival?

I read most of an article in the current (or very recent) Time magazine yesterday while at my dentists office. All about VW and VWNA marketing and financial problems, and their worldwide marketing problems. An interesting read, I recommend it.
