actually while it has the 50mm dia, its not the same filler neck as the 84-87 ones. the difference is the "A" at the end of the part number. the '84-'87 is part number 251 201 129.. the 87 on down dont have the float ball, the 251 201 129 A was used on the '88-'91 vans and has the float ball. i have 2 '87 vanagons here w/ the non-float ball filler necks.. no "A" at the end of the part #. and a 80 and a 83 vanagon w/ the metal filler neck.. and another 80 with the '88-91 filler neck (someone replaced it - datecode on plastic is '89)

anyway.. none of the above really matters since the former 2 filler necks have been discontinued and superceded by the '88-'91 filler necks # 251 201 129 A.... the updated one w/ the float ball...
