I stand corrected...

Snap-On calls it a "triple square":

<<http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/pro_det.asp?P65=&tool=all&item_ID=2480&grou p_ID=282&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog>>

Snap-On calls it a "double hex":

<<http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/pro_det.asp?P65=&tool=all&item_ID=14203&gro up_ID=2198&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog>>

Hazet calls it a "Internal Serration Screwdriver Socket":

I give up. I'm just going to start calling it "that f******g socket". No not that one, the other one...

Sorry for the WOB.

Cheers All,

Jeff

I don't know Jeff, did you check? I checked my 2000 Snapon catalog and it says "triple square", with no mention of "12 point".

3/8" drive metric triple squares on page 105 1/2" drive metric triple squares on page 122

I have some of each drive type as they fit other common things on VW/Audis. The head bolts on the inline engines for example.

For Vanagon CVs I prefer my Matco version as the very long shank is better for the outboard CVs IMHO.
