I posed the same question a while back but got busy on other vanagon-related things. I received several messages telling me to check the brake and clutch switches first. But, with no more information than that, I haven't taken any action, hoping to ask for more information. That might be a good place to start... what are we supposed to be looking for?

Also, what are your symptoms? Mine worked fine for 10 years plus. Then would engage sporadically. By that I mean if I started the car and attempted to engage the cruise control, I might be successful 70 percent of the time, then later 50, then thirty and now none over a 6-month period. And if it did engage it would always engage again until the car was restarted, and if it didn't engage it wouldn't at all until restarting, upon which it may or may not have engaged. Not scientific data, but the pattern I observed.
