Subject: Manual Steering Rack+TieRod Install questions
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hi, i am installing a used rack to my 84' I need to install tie rod assemblies 1st. im using a new tie-rod and one used tie-rod(good condition). Both Tie rods have new ball-joints. Questions: 1. is there a way to re-peen the older tie rod to the rack so it keeps it from unscrewing? (it was peened from previous use) Should i not re-use this used tie rod assembly? 2. can i assemble the rack+tie-rod assemblies all at once and THEN bolt the whole unit to the van? 3. What kind of grease should i use?, bentley says only VW steering rack grease....do i really need to buy this stuff or can i use bearing grease?

I think thats all, Thanks for the help
