Alan, The digitool was designed primarily for the 2.1l engine, but will work with the 1.9. Following is what the maker, Darrell Boehler said about this a few months ago: The 3.0 digitool which I have been making for several years now will work on 83.5 - 91 vanagons. I make no others units. It will also work on digijet units but I don't normally support the digijet configurations. In case you may have missed the fact I will remind you that you will need to send your ecu to me so I can add a cable with a 25 pin D shell shielded modem cable to the ecu. The digitool cable attaches / mates up to the added connector when you hook up the tool. I charge $100 for the digitool. This includes adding the cable to one ecu and shipping your way. Additions to additional ecus are $10 each. Check with me before sending your ecu I sometimes don't have tools make up. Thanks for your interest.
