I have a busted CV boot too.  In my case it has a factory wire clamp on
the end and I couldn't
have done it wrong.  Now I have grease over my transmission etc.  Fun.

I fixed the fast idle, I fixed the leaking vacuum hose.

Cracked exhaust and busted boot.  I too am getting good at this.
