I was happy with the reliability (much more reliable than the 25-year-old FI system) and fuel economy, but not with the performance. I think it was running lean at high RPMs, though, hence the loss of top end. If I'd kept the van I might have tried a smaller air correction jet in the secondary barrel.

Yeah, I noticed it really doesn't pay to dip into the secondary barrel at low RPM, especially if the engine is kind of cold. It bogs pretty badly.

I found I had to tweak it richer in the winter and leaner in the summer, probably due to the lack of carb heat. Granted, not a big deal; a few seconds with a screwdriver. It always idled kind of rich. Trying to change that usually resulted in bad hesitation coming off idle.

My linkage problem was that the throttle tended to hang up just before closed, raising the idle to 1500 RPM. Not only was this annoying, but shutting the engine off at that RPM would result in dieseling. Tapping the accellerator would usually snap it shut and bring the idle down. I found out really quickly, too, that you had to leave the throttle arm kind of loose. Trying to snug it up results in the primary throttle sticking open. It just seemed kind of cheaply made to me.
