John,

I saw mention of using a relay to fix starter problems in a recent search of the archives. What wasn't clear to me was how or where to install it. I saw one vague sentence about installing it somewhere along the wiring route front to back. Maybe my searches missed some post that had the details.

Also the writer of most of those posts on this indicated that in 3 of 4 vans where he did this, and got improved starting results, he still had to have the starter rebuilt sometime later.

Any clarity on installing this relay would be appreciated. If it simply replaces one already in the van, which one? I tried to identify this in Bentley without success. Maybe I missed something or didn't persist long enough.

I solved my problem for the moment when I realized I had a starter from another 84 in the garage and swapped those. It works. But I am sure others would appreciate some help on this as it is a common problem.

Sam
