I have both a cheapie floor universal stand and a VW specific bench mount stand. I switch between MG engines and VW engines easily. Just throw away the VW bench top mounting bracket and insert the arm into the floor stand, and you have the best of both worlds. It was the only solution I could find several years ago, but if a floor type stand for VW is available cheap, get that if all you are going to do is VW.

The VW mounting arm lets you install the clutch and flywheel with the engine bolted on the arm, and no universal stand allows enough clearance for this.
