The archives store not only data but the consciousness of the group. When I go to the archives it does take time and often is a pain in the ass but often also is faster than waiting for a reply from the list. Fastest yet is a collection of email addresses I keep for those I have learned know what they talk about.

Useful also are the web sites like John and others have compiled.

I think the archives should be left alone.

Just my 2 cents.
