Um, it was the puff of smoke while I was troubleshooting the igniter. Oops. Continuity across the charred spot was 0. Ok, so I have a ways to go before I get that electricians license I wanted for Christmas. :)

Thanks for any help,

Skip, How do you know the thermostat is bad? have you checked for continuity? The mechanism is probably bi-metal and has magnetic contact "points" and can be adjusted. Very simple. Had one in my 74 sportsmobile.
