Changeover appears to have been the 1986 model year... this was the first year with the 2.1 liter engine and digifant injection. Prior wasserboxers (83.5 through 85) were 1.9 liter with digijet injection. I only have direct experience with the digijet (on my 1.9L '85 westie), and have not had any major problems with the FI system... I did need to replace the air-flow meter, but that particular component is a moving part, and seems to wear out in both FI systems after enough time and mileage. Tim |
