----- Original Message ----- > I just removed the clutch slave cylinder on my '82 air cooled Westy. Removing the rear bolt on the mounting bracket was a major PITA. You have to hold the bolt on the top side of the bracket and the nut on the underside of the bracket to prevent it from spinning. Getting at the bolt on the underside is very akward. > I have an '85 GL, so the mtg bracket might be different, but I didn't have too much trouble. The bolts cannot come up through the bracket (actually, only the rearward one can't). Drop the rearward bolt through the slave, and hold it close to the bracket, while you have the lock washer and nut on a finger tip (helps to have long fingers). Slide these under the bracket to the rearward hole and lower the slave in. Get the bolt to pop through the hole, and turn it from the top to get it started. Then do the other. I used a typical offset box-end wrench to hold the nut, and a socket/ratchet to tighten the bolt. It probably has to be an offset type. I doubt a flat wrench would do, and a 12pt box makes it easier, with more engagement options. Jon Schaer Columbus, OH '85 GL 139000+ |
