"is there a continuing supply of fuel from the tank?" NO. But, the system is under so much pressure that the amount of fuel that makes it onto hot engine parts/spark/ignition, then air, is sufficient to begin the inferno-ization of the rest of the van. The gas is just the starter. "Seems like there was more to fuel that fire than there should have been." Take a good look into the engine area including the plastic lid and the foam on it. All those "old" rubber hoses, plastic-coated wires, paint. Then consider the fairly efficient vent shafts (D pillars) and how close the fender wells are to provide more air. A fire there would probably burn itself out if it couldn't get through the plastic lid and into the van interior. On the other hand, a Syncro has a nice big 18.5 gallon fuel supply neatly tucked nearby that might just make things much more interesting. New fuel lines and brass fittings/connections seem like such a small expense. There are so many knowledgeable resources here that can advise.
