Subject: Fuel line valve for changing a fuel filter

Has anyone who changed a fuel filter added an in line valve similar to plumbing valves on hot water tanks that we can turn off when changing a fuel filter? Seems like a good idea. Does such a valve exist or does one just clamp the fuel line or is it too brittle to do so? It never occurred to me that the fuel would drain out when changing a fuel filter. I guess I would find out when I attempted the change.
