If I was to make a bed to fit in the rear of a 7 pass. Vanagon, I would copy the country campers Idea. They make a platform that goes over the engine, at the sam height of the existing seat, when folded forward. Under this deck you would have room for storage, and no change to the rear seat is needed. The key is to make sure the height is correct, in order to have a completely flat surface to stretch out on.
