This is the head temp gauge kit, come with the spark plug sender and the long wire. The sender is a washer type sender, it goeas around one of the plug, suggested cylinder are # 3 or 4.

More gauge here: http://store.cip1.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=cali&Category_Code=20-01

The oil temp gauge is often intalled on the drain plug or the round plate (forgot the name) where the oil dip stick lower end goes.

As oposed to everyone....again! i think that the oil gauge is too slow to react and accuracy vary quite a lot with outside temp. Technicaly, the head temp should be the one affected by ambient temp but believe me, it is not the case. The head temp gauge also react instantaneously as oppose to the oil gauge.

So if you have to pick one up, i would choose the head temp gauge.

Ex: last february when i was in Baja, a plastic bag blocked the cooling fan completely, in a matter of second the head temp went to the 600F (max) mark, the oil gauge followed and went over 260F. It somewhat save my engine for sure, even if the heat probably finish life that the engine had left, but still, i made it home.

Remember one thing, those gage will get you crasy, they will stress you out for sure, you will look at them very often, too much i would say... You can live with it or without it, i have chosen to live with them.

I have tested the accuracy of the VDO head temp gauge with a laptop and 2 infrared guns hooked to the laptop, this will be my next post!!! but just to say that the VDO is quite accurate (-+5%), i know, i have 2 in my bus, one on #3 and one on #2.

Cheers, Ben
