I've pondered this as well. I think the simplest, but maybe not the best, is to run the wire along the rain gutter and down the vent to the engine compartment and then get the high current direct from the alternator. Install a relay back there so that you can turn them on and you are set. This way, if you use big enough wire you will have move volts running up there as you are taking it from the alternator rather than the battery.

I like my Syncro Westfalia with the big bush bar on the front with the Hella Rallye 2000s on it. I can light road signs 5km away! Very simple to get power to this location!

I just mounted some nice Hella off-road lights on a Thule Bar and installed it on the roof of the Vanagon Syncro (not Westfalia). Just wanted to know what some of your solutions have been to getting the wiring inside, once inside, how you ran it and which power lead you tied into.
