I cant believe most people on the list are going around and around on this as if this engine just came out yesterday. This engine is being used in countless Porsche 914/912's and some fools even try and put in in their experimantal aircraft. It only takes a few hours of Google searching to know that the engine life drops off drasticly if you put in a big bore iron cylinder kit. Increasing the stroke is going to cause similar problems, your adding more heat load to a system thats moxed out. You may get 20,000 miles out of it before it melts down, and thats pushing around a little lightweight porsche. To get any real improvement out of the engine you first need to address the lack of cooling, either by a porsche 911 upright fan conversion, which wont fit under the lid of a vanagon, or switching to aluminum cylinders. Got to get rid of all the extra heat before it damages your expensive engine. A big oil coolers not enough, I did that on my vanagon hoping it would help bring down the CHT by having oil temps no higher than 180. Top speed is still limited by CHT even though I have nice cool oil now.
