My first Vanagon was a 5-passenger '82 diesel. I was living in Louisville, KY, at the time. I remember one winter night when I was driving back from southern Michigan. I could not keep the van warm with the regular heater. I had to have the oil burner on to keep warm.

Took the van to my mechanic at the time. Had bad thermostat.
