What timing for this thread - I just installed E-code Outer rectangulars on my '86 Syncro (http://www.fastforward.ca/Vanagon/). I've considered the SA grille and lights, going to 7" E-codes, fabricating mounts and a grill to install Cibie' s CSR lights (http://lighting.mbz.org/products/csr.html), etc. Even though the E-code rectangulars are pricey, with the 100/80 watt bulbs installed, *I Can Now See At Night!*. This compared with 100/80 lamps in the stock DOT lights, which yielded brighter but still useless lights. I have done a rudimentary aiminig using a wall, and am not blinding others while having good visibility. When properly aimed, it should be quite nice visibility for all.

The stock inner hi-beams are the same in the US as elswhere, I believe. With 100W bulbs in the those, the hi-beams are effective, to say the least.

I need headlights, and have always thought that the lighting for the Vanagons was sorely lacking. So, I am considering Xenon lights. Are there any drawbacks to using these as opposed to stock lights? Specifically, I am looking at an auction on Ebay right now...

If they really don't use more draw, are brighter and fit into the existing spots with no modifications I don't see much of a negative...

Thanks.. Jason
