i have 2 of these left, if anyones interested.. since the recent thread of engine fire posts have been up on the list. a metal lid will keep flames from spreading to your interior in the event of a engine fire, and buy you more time to save your van in the event disaster strikes.. the plastic stock lid on the 83.5-'91 vanagons melts, and will cave into the engine compartment allowing flames to enter your interior. the metal one doesnt burn and keeps the flames out. its a simple upgrade that fits all vanagons that could save your van, giving you more time to put the fire out w/ a extinguisher. i have a metal lid on my 84, and have tried the lid on my 87, 89, 90 parts vans, and it fits fine.. so it should fit all vans 80-91. a lister previously stated that they dont fit later vans..i tried this myself, and they do. im not sure what the problem was for him. of course the proper way to prevent a engine fire is to change your fuel lines, but a good fire extinguisher (bigger size, not small one) and a metal lid are some ways you can save your van in the event of a engine fire. |
