The Vanagon's MPG is extremely sensitive to the driver's right foot. I never get better than 15MPG in any of my vans, however, my Father borrowed my van and got 22MPG. I tend to go 75MPH on the freeway and usually shift somewhere around 4500 RPMs. He prefers to go 65MPH on the freeway and shifts around 3500 RPMs. I think there was a list member who wrote about having to drive 45MPH for hours due to weather. IIRC, he got something like 30MPG over that stretch. Of course, if your van needs maintenance, then it probably won't matter how gentle you are with the right foot. Your MPG will suck. Cheers, Happy Holidays & Your Mileage may Vary, Jeff - with a size 13 right foot... |
