That's right! I second this emotion. The reason the tailight has a lower wattage than the brake light is to prevent glare , and contrast between the brake and tail lights for other motorists.. The high voltage craze has spilled over to the tailights , and I think it's a mistake.

I can see tailights of early VW's and cars made in the 40's when I see them, if you can't , you need :

1. Lots of carrot juice 2. New glasses 3. night vision goggles!

I was going to say 4.: drive only during the day- but that's too much to ask.

This need to blind other drivers has gone too far. I think it can be helpful to have an additional red lense rear foglight for fog. Ok -two rear red foglights if that will make you happy.

I use the stock rear lights.

One thing I am a staunch advocate of is a rear third brake light. I see a lot of rear -ended Vanagons at junkyards.

yikes! this concerns me because the tail lights are too bright wrt to the brake lights. You *need* a big difference in the tail light and brake lights so the guy behind you can see the brake lights! Don't believe me? Follow someone with lights that are not well differentiated and you'll know exactly what i mean.
