Jim, I have an automatic with 123,000 miles on it now and never had a problem--except for one time after having the fluid changed the mechanic over-filled the tranny and I got some slippage. When I checked the ATF level I saw immediately what the problem was, had them draw it down to the proper level and haven't had a problem since. I'd rather have a manual tranny, but an automatic is what I've got. No complaints, other than the obvious--that it sucks up some of the precious little horsepower.
