While i used to live in the bay area, i used two shops for my vanagon mechanic needs (both in Berkeley):

1) Karmakanix 2) BusLab

Out of the two, Karmakanix had much more convenient hours, did good work, but communication was a little bit off, and whenever you stopped by, it always took forever (but you get to know that steve is a good guitar player :-). BusLab, led by Marco and Steve (a different one), seems a tightly run ship by a couple of guys truly interested in your van, and who are honest. They have done a bit of work on my van, and all of it turned out quite well. Additionally, while i was building my engine, they took time out of their busy schedule to help me out by finding random small bits at what i have to imagine was a $$ loss to them. Overall great people and i highly recommend them. Tell them Damon, the new canuk, says "Hi!".

Hope that helps, -Damon
