Subject:      reverse lights wiring?

tell me about the reverse light wiring. They worked before i pulled the gas tank but since putting back in the tank i must'a cut a wire because i don't have reverse lights anymore. If i ground the two leads on the tranny switch together i get nothing. So i'm going to re-wire them. Where is the power source and how is it wired? thanks matthew 86 syncro
