Subject: seal on air outside air dam
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"
I wonder if anyone has had this happen to then on their Vanagon. I have a 91
Westy that I bought without any records, but has obviously been stored in the
salt air. When I first got it the cables that closed and opened the fresh
air intake was broken or stuck -- I had this repaired and it worked fine until I
noticed bits of black foam coming out of the heater/air ducts-- then
discovered that I couldn't turn off the outside air. this in no problem in the
winter when a bit of heat is welcome but I live in the desert and it's not nice to
have a hundred plus air doing battle with the air conditioning during the
summer months. My mechanic tell me that the replacement of the foam seal on this
dam is very hard to get at and it requires removing the air-conditioning coil
in the front of the grill and is vary costly.( I feel he doesn't really want to
do it) As yet haven't been to the dealer to get an estimate-- any ideas or
suggestions would be most appreciated/
Cheers and Happy New Year
