Has anyone ever heard about the Noriker? From what I have read, it is a Steyr-Puch redesigned VW LT 40 4x4 that was prototyped from 1990 to 1992 as a potential replacement for the Pinzgauer and direct competition to the Unimog and other medium load military vehicles. It was trailed by the Canadian Army for the replacement of the 1950s 5/4 tonne trucks that they had. The Fiat Ducato won the bid (why??) and was built under licence by Western Star in the early 90s.

Features of this vehicle were a six cylinder turbo Diesel motor, Porthole axles (borrowed from the Pinzgauer?), 9.00x16 tires, larger fender openings with expensive looking plastic wheel arches (like the Syncro 16), mega skid plates, air intake snorkel etc...

If you go to http://www.lt-4x4.de there is a large section on the Noriker.

Now that I have my TriStar, I think I will lust after one of these puppies if there are any left to be had.

If any one can point me to more information on the Noriker it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

David Marshall
