It couldn't be "out of calibration" to the extent that it couldn't measure voltages to within 5% or better unless it was failing completely. I calibrated stuff for a living at one point in my life, and nothing really drifts even 1% since we got rid of tubes/valves and electrolytic capacitors. Modern DVMs are quite good.
