i put a swival seat base on the pass side of my 84 passenger van. easy to do, just tack welded it in like it was in the donor westy. the battery compartment lid gets covered by carpet anyway, so its not a big deal if you need to trim it alittle, tho i dont even remeber that i had to trim it or not. i did cut out the section under the front of the seat, so i could store stuff under there.. that was a nice touch. i can bolt my batt down fine, and there is no "slop". i dont remember it being closer to the windshield tho.

fyi i have a swival seat base for sale if anyones interested
