Well I finally bought my first Vanagon this weekend....an '87 GL Weekender (~180k mi.). Lots of projects planned for this one. To start I have to replace my master cylinder and front brake pads. I think that the ball joints and shocks need to be replaced. When I drive the van on the highway it feels like the road is made of Jello and I drank too much cough syrup: a side-to-side & up&down motion all at the same time. Do you guys think it would be a good idea to replace the control arm bushings while I'm in there? Is there any way to tell if these are bad apart from visual inspection and are they pretty easy to swap out? Thanks for any input. BTW, my Vanagon is also Titian Red Metallic LB3V and I definitely need some touch-up paint. Frank Charleston, SC |
