I've had good luck that way...I've always loaded the van on backwards, so the engine was closer to the tongue. I don't know if it really matters, but it seemed like it would be the most stable configuration. No problems with the trailer fishtailing at 70+ mph on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, behind a U-Haul truck. I snickered every time I saw the "Speed Limit 45 mph" warning on the trailer fenders in the rear view mirror.
