Subject: Power Steering Fluid Leak... Reservoir?
Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

I have a power steering leak in the rear of my van, but I'm having a hard time determining exactly where it's coming from. Basically, if the van sits for just a couple of hours, a spot appears beneath, so I thought such a big leak would be obvious when I had a helper turn the wheel back/forth. But I couldn't see anything.

There is a layer of fluid on the reservoir, the supply/return hoses and the exhaust shield below. It seemed likely that the hose connections were leaking, as there was particular build-up there. But then, there's also fluid on the TOP of the reservoir itself, which I'm guessing means fluid is leaking out of the cap... Or spraying on it somehow?

Additionally, some of the other PS hoses (coming off the pump) have slight fluid residue at the connections as well. It's as if the pressure is squeezing out fluid wherever it can?! Again, there were no noticeable leaks when I had someone crank the wheel to the side.

Anyway, I'm wondering whether I should go ahead and replace the reservoir or if there's perhaps another problem.

Thanks, all, once again.
